I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a garment sewn at home feel truly special. It led me to design my own dress with a couture-inspired hidden hem finish, giving it the beautifully refined feel I was after. I loved the idea of designing a print specifically for this hem finish, allowing the motif to remain whole, with space to breathe. As I experimented with different ways to create it, the measuring, marking and preparation quickly became by far the most tedious part of the project. That’s how my Dora Signature Panel came to be: a purpose-designed fabric panel that allowed me to create the hidden hem exactly as I envisioned it, through a beautifully simple process. I’m delighted to finally share it with fellow sewists.
